What does shopping local mean to us?
About 10 years ago, shopping local or in the UK would never of been a consideration when we buy items, but the we talk to our friends, family and followers the more important its becoming. People want to support people and we love that.
When we were starting the journey of Annie with Alex we were “told” that we had to find factories abroad to make our products, as they were cheaper and had the capabilities for small to large production. But as a family business we really wanted to keep things close at hand, specially keeping an eye on the quality of the products.
We love that we know exactly who and where are products are made our products . Its currently takes 3 pairs of hands to make each one of your bags, made within 2 miles of Alex’s House.
-
Megan cuts the fabric from handmade paper templates to ensure that they are all the same size
-
Henry sews the bags together
- I ( or Mum) place all the keys on the bags.
What you might not know is, UK Manufacturing is the 9th largest manufacturing nation in the world with an output of £192bn and employs over 2.7m people.
If everyone in the UK bought one item on a single day it would generate an additional £1.3bn to the economy and as makers we would make the nation dance with joy ( you will know that every sale we make, both Mum and I do a happy dance!)
As you will know, we love making our products in the UK (actually 2 miles from Alex’s House)
